The Sprague Home in Greenwich, CT

Raymond Sprague I was a self-made man. In my mind my great-grandfather’s story sounded like an Horatio Alger story, because he left home very young to “make his own way and seek his fortune.” He eventually had his own seat on Wall Street, which enabled him to build a beautiful home in Greenwich, Connecticut. Ray and wife Beulah called it Railsmuir, a name based on the names of their children: Raymond, Ailsa, and Muriel.

An aerial photo taken on November 29, 1929, shows Railsmuir in the context of a still-undeveloped Greenwich.
